“Activities at a Glance”

With the aim of women's development and equality, various activities of the revenue and development sectors are implemented under the guidance of the Directorate of Women's Affairs.

VWB Program (Formerly VGD): The largest social security program (Safety net program) of the Government of Bangladesh provides 30 kg of food grains and training per month for two years or 24 months for the development of poor and helpless and physically able women. The total number of beneficiaries of VWB program in 2023-24 cycle in Mahadevpur upazila is 2013 people.


Mother and Child Support Programme: Under the National Social Security Strategy under the Directorate of Affairs, this program is being implemented across Bangladesh for the nutritional development and intellectual development of children aged 0 to 4 years. Beneficiaries get 36 months allowance at the rate of Tk 800 per month. In Mahadevpur upazila, 107 beneficiaries are being included in this program every month.


Microcredit Program for Self-Employment of Women: Microcredit is provided with the aim of creating self-employment by engaging the penniless and poor women in productive activities who have received various vocational training. The program “Microcredit Program for Self-Employment of Women” is being implemented from the financial year 2003-04.

Child marriage prevention activities: Under this program, with the aim of stopping child marriages in the country, regular yard meetings are held to create public awareness among the people about the evils of child marriages at the upazila and union levels, and quick action steps are taken with the help of the upazila administration if there are complaints of child marriages.


Women and Child Abuse Prevention Program: In 1986, the Women Abuse Prevention Program was started at the head office of the Directorate of Women's Affairs to provide legal advice and support to women victims of abuse. Later, the program is being conducted through the office of women affairs officer in all districts and upazilas. Providing immediate legal assistance to helpline number 109 through multisectoral activities to prevent violence against women. Women and children victims of torture can get necessary help from any mobile phone 24 hours a day, including their family members. In Mahadevpur upazila, the activities to prevent violence against women and children are being conducted through the upazila and union committee and immediate measures are taken to prevent incidents like torture and trafficking.

Registration, Renewal and Grant Distribution of Voluntary Women's Associations: For women's empowerment and entrepreneurship, registration and renewal of voluntary women's organizations and annual one-time grants are provided by the Directorate of Women's Affairs among the registered societies, which helps to accelerate the progress of women.


"Bangladesh in pursuit of victory" activity: One of the recent best practices of the Directorate of Women's Affairs is the "Bangladesh in pursuit of victory" activity. Jayita is a symbolic name of a woman who overcomes all obstacles in the society and succeeds in various fields. Under the guidance of the Directorate of Women's Affairs, every year the 5 best women selected in 5 categories by the Union and Upazila Committees are awarded during the celebration of the International Women's Violence Prevention Party (November 25 to December 10) and Begum Rokeya Day (December 9). Through this program, successful grassroots women and winners in various fields will be inspired, the entire society will be women-friendly and by this, the construction of an egalitarian society will be accelerated. Five categories of victory election:

 

(1) Economically successful women

(2) Women who have achieved success in education and employment

(3) Successful mothers

(4) The woman who removed the horror of torture and started life with new enthusiasm

(5) Women who have made an outstanding contribution to the development of society

Women Training Center (WTC): 3 months training in tailor trade is provided through this program to turn poor, backward women into self-reliant and skilled human resources. The number of trainees per batch is 30. For admission, the trainees have to submit the application in the prescribed form after the publication of the admission notification.


IGA Training Programme: The main objective of the Upazila Level Income Generating Women (IGA) Training Scheme is to “help poor, backward women to become self-reliant and skilled human resources by imparting training in income generating activities in the area.” In Mahadevpur Upazila, 3 months training is being provided in two trades (1) mushroom cultivation, vermi compost and mau cultivation, (2) fashion design. The number of trainees per trade is 50. For admission online application has to be submitted after publication of trainee admission notification on project website iga.dwa.gov.bd.


Adolescent Empowerment Program for Positive Social Change by Organizing in Clubs: Conducting adolescent clubs to empower adolescents as active agents of social change in a supportive environment of family and society. Activities are ongoing to create awareness to prevent child marriage, sexual harassment. This program is being implemented through 10 clubs in 10 unions in Mahadevpur upazila. The number of teenagers in 10 clubs is 300.
